Our pathway
From a swimmer's first length to National Finals, every squad at Northgate sits on the same pathway — built around technique first, fitness second, and competition when a swimmer is ready for it.
Our entry-level squad for swimmers who've completed the Learn to Swim stages and can already manage 25m. Sessions build steadily from widths to full lengths, laying down the technique foundations of all four strokes, and introduce competitive starts as confidence grows.
Once they're ready, Gators get their first taste of competition at club championships and diddy galas — with open meets joining the calendar from age 9.
Sitting within the Learn to Train phase of the athlete pathway, Junior Development focuses on building aerobic fitness and general athleticism alongside continued technical refinement — so swimmers arrive at their next step with both the fitness base and the stroke technique to make use of it.
Continuing the Learn to Train phase with higher-intensity sessions and a sharper focus on competitive starts and turns. Regular competition becomes part of the rhythm here, including league events such as the Nuneaton Junior Swimming League — Northgate were promoted to Division 1 after a strong 2024 campaign.
Our most experienced squad, spanning the Train to Compete and Compete to Win stages. It's a genuinely wide-ranging group — from swimmers building toward county-level performances through to National Finalists — all training and competing together.
3.5 hours a week across Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock — adult swimmers training for fitness, technique and (for those who want it) Masters competition.
A calendar-monthly rate that enables attendance at the appropriate group session during school holidays.
Coaching team
Our squads are led by qualified, volunteer and professional coaches, headed by Head Coach Mike — who prepares our competitive teams using official rankings data and close conversations with swimmers and parents, always with swimmer enjoyment and comfort front of mind.
